Doncaster based DB cargo has finally decided to cut down 900 jobs and decision was made and the concerned staff was informed that what kind of employees may be at the risk of redundancy.
The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union in the UK said that the declaration by the DB cargo was shocking news. It is one of the top signs of a flopped management to cut down the jobs rather than improving their business.
It is although a very tough time for employees at DB cargo as the company is reshaping the entire business but the staff must be given a final chance to play their role in the development of the DB Cargo. The DB Cargo must allow the Union to rebuild the business for the future and for the protection of the employee jobs.
General Secretary of the Union has said that the downsizing is like throat cutting practice of the employees. It is just like killing people who feed you for the years. It is just like to kill the entire rail industry and the lack of government support is even more shocking.
He further stated that the union would meet to decide upon the issue and will consider the response. He stated that the government should intervene before it gets too late. They must support the skilled hands to continue and must stop the rail freighter from slaughtering these golden hands before their eyes. They must intervene to save the manufacturing sector and coal industry.
The DB Cargo is the country’s largest freighter and employed more than 3,399 people across the country. The cargo freighter has said that these redundancy issues arise due to the stoppage of the steel and coal cargo.
The demand for the coal cargo and steel cargo in the UK has been dropped very badly and from January to September the cargo freighter has faced a drop of more than 78 percent in the coal only and the cargo of steel with the DB Cargo has been decreased by 33 percent.
They said that it is their very hard turn to take but there isn’t any other way but cutting down the employee base in their freight sector. The CEO if the DB cargo said that it is one of the prime duties of the established businesses that they must reshape and evolve their market changes like the cut downs in the coal and steel freight trains, but sometimes the tough decisions are necessary and someone has to sacrifice in this process of rehabilitation.
The government rail freight strategy was published last month and in the report sector can continue to grow and identify the challenges that rail freighters are facing. It also looking at the potential for innovation in the logistic sectors and rail industry can collectively help each other to change the situation and relieve the pressure on the entire sector.
