All airlines are agreed on the ethical policy against the trade of endangered species and perishables that are banned by the Virgin Atlantic cargo. According to air cargo industry, it’s time for all airlines to accept the ethical carriage policies
Virgin Atlantic cargo appreciates the policy of other airlines to stop the department of haunting trophies. According to Virgin Atlantic Cargo it is a time for all air cargo industry to receive the policy of ethical cargo strictly and to openly pinpoint the freights that are not suitable to move through air cargo. Virgin Atlantic Cargo is using its own ethical cargo policy from three years.
It is an agreement between all-cargo industry to abolish the shipments including haunting trophies and endangered species and to act upon the strict ethical policy of cargo.
According to Virgin Atlantic it would finish middle and irregularity from the cargo market. Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and IATA to ban the illegal trade of wildlife and endangered species can now become an agent for this necessary amendment.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between CITES and IATA to make a proper agenda for their continual cooperation on the implementation of the ethical principles and practices such as Live Animals Regulations and Perishable Cargo Regulations of IATA, and CITES Policies for the Non-Air Transport of Live Wild Animals and Plants.
To lessen prohibited trade and confirm the safe transport of legitimately traded wildlife CITES and IATA will also help the cooperative training and communications activities.
Ethical cargo policy of Virgin Atlantic Cargo has banned the cargo of hunting trophies, Bluefin tuna and shark fins. Virgin Atlantic also prohibits the delivery of animals for research purposes such as apes and laboratory rats, as well as hatching eggs and day-old chicks, meat or products from Cetaceans, and furs and pelts.
Senior vice-president cargo at Virgin Atlantic John Lloyd stated that according to the ethical cargo policies, the cargo of hunting trophies, endangered species, shark fins and any animals for research purposes has banned by Virgin Atlantic Cargo. It’s great to see other airlines using similar policies but according to an industry-wide agreement that all airlines cooperation would be an important stage to move forward in helping to stop the cargo of wildlife. Air Canada also denied transferring any cargo of wildlife such as lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros and water buffalo trophies worldwide as freight.
