As the cargo activities are increasing worldwide day by day, taking it under consideration, Gwadar Deep Sea and the China Overseas Port Holding Company has set an alliance of expansion Gwadar port. Further in the news, Pakistan has given the authority to Chinese company a 40-year concession and the company has started work implementing development plan creating cargo handling capacity up to 300 million tons a year.
Previously, Gwadar port had a plan of development with M/s port of Singapore Authority International and they had expanded the dimensions of the port by developing a Multipurpose Terminal to handle a total of 6.329 million tons of urea and wheat since 2008.
The Authority of Gwadar Port is accepting the truth that the current Multipurpose Terminal is not used to its full capacity. This point is highlighted by the Chinese Port holding company and then given the proposal of occupying the space by developing the operational area.
The Chinese company has started the operations on short scale loaded with sea food from Gwadar port.
There are various development activities which are under development in day and night at Gwadar port.
Gwadar port is already operational for the reception of ships. Yet after the completion of hinterland connectivity, it will start full operations and businesses. Meanwhile, the Port free zone and required infrastructure also in place.
Currently, the Multipurpose terminal is operational with 602 meters quay length by accommodating three ships at a time with the loading capacity of 50,000 tons each. For maintenance and refuelling, there is one service berth of length 100 meters for marine crafts and one RORO facility is also there.
After the development, the quay length will increase to 4.7kms accommodating 22 ships of 200 meters each when the port will expand its operations and development in the next phase.
The plans at Gwadar Port are mighty and in the coming future, there are lots of more development plans which will surely make the Gwadar Port one of the most demanding ports in Asia.
