Koningsborg, a general cargo ship, has sustained some serious damage by storm in the English Channel while it was en-route from Finland to Tunisia. It is reported that the ship lost its propulsion power, 18 nautical miles off Quessant island, France, it remained adrift.
This kind of ships are normally used to deliver sea cargo to Pakistan and all other major countries in the world. When this vessel was disabled, it suffered hull damages and lost part from the deck cargo of lumber.
As soon as the crew of the unfortunate ship learned about the damage it quickly sent a distress signal to the local authorities requesting immediate assistance.
Salvage tug Abeille Bourbon was promptly dispatched at the scene of the accident which successfully towed general cargo ship Koningsborg safely to Brest. The rescue team found the crew members of Koningsborg on board willing to assist with salvage.
There are so many cargo companies that are offering services such as door-to-door cargo, parcel delivery and so much more. They all use vessels like Koningsborg to deliver the cargo to destinations safe and sound but sometimes face difficulties and damages like this one.
The local authorities will launch an investigation to determine what caused the accident. Fortunately, during the storm and salvage, there were no injuries reported.
In order to resume its voyage, the vessel needs repair works and after that the authorities will inspect the ship for seaworthiness.
There will be a possible delay of 2-3 days in the schedule due to the damages of the hull, which is not so dangerous by the way.
