The ‘man’ works in Dubai’s cargo since 2007 and his days and nights were passing in air cargo yards loading and unloading excessive cargo baggage. But suddenly, he got the chance to represent UAE in the cricket field; he proved that how cargo men can deliver the best.
He flew several times as a crew member of cargo flights from UK to Pakistan, but this time his destination was Australia. It was no the cargo flight either, he flew from the deserts of the Gulf and landed in Brisbane and racked up boundaries in record style.
Yes! You are right, he is none else but Shaiman Anwar. He became the first UAE cricket player to hit a century in any of the ICC Cricket World-Cup. By profession, a cargo man and now a cricketer smashed ten fours followed by a long six against Ireland an associate member of ICC and was dismissed at 106 but the damage was already done. He faced 83 deliveries to achieve this milestone for UAE cricket team.
He performed very well against Zimbabwe as well by putting 67 runs on the scoreboard. In the gulf leagues, Anwar is known as “Sixer Shaiman”
Shaiman Anwar said, “I think it was my best innings — I wanted to put a maximum on the board, to put pressure on Ireland,” “I was always comfortable, and trusted myself when I was in. It was a big game for me.”
Anwar is a Pakistani by birth and has played for Sialkot and Servis Industries in Pakistan. He started working with a famous cargo company in Dubai when he shifted to Dubai in 2007. He qualified for the Dubai cricket team in 2009 and since then he has been regularly playing cricket for UAE.
