Asia is the largest continent of the world that covers almost 30 percent land area of the globe and 60 percent of world population also lives in Asia. Major populated countries are China, India, Pakistan, Indonesia and Bangladesh.
Asia is also a major economic hub in the world. Mainly, sea cargo is used to transfer freight from all over the world, however, the express freight is transferred through air cargo from other continents because air cargo is a rapid source of delivering cargo.
In Asia, Air cargo demand has been increasing rapidly since in the past decade. According to Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA), air cargo volumes have been increased in the month of April. Air cargo is the main source of freight forwarding to the western world from Asian countries like Korea, Japan and China.
Asia also hosts some economic giants of the world such as, China, Japan and air cargo from these countries is one of the reliable sources to transfer freight deliveries to the world. Demand for air cargo has increased in Asia, according to air cargo companies’ records, approximately 7.2 percent increase has been recorded in the first quarter of 2015.
AAPA director general says that the projected air cargo demand for the next quarter is more uncertain because this is the quietest period of the season and will depend on the speed of recovery in world trade existence maintained. Asia becomes the main driver of world’s economy and demand for cargo has also been increased in inter-regional and across region activities.
China has signed the agreement with Pakistan to eliminate the bottle necks in the cargo transfer and agreed on Gawadar-China economic corridor. On the other hand, Hong Kong International (HKI) is the world’s largest airport to transfer freight. HKI has moved 421,000 tons freight in the last November. It was a record freight transferred in a single month, in the history of HKI cargo processes.
In Asia, air cargo demand has increased for high valued goods such as sensitive electronics which are mostly delivered by air cargo. Through air cargo, more goods are traded internationally that is stimulating the growth in air freight. In the first half of 2015, global air freight raised by 5.3 percent, as compared to 2014. Cargo Carriers in Asia-pacific are the backbone of this rapid development in cargo process. Air cargo is now strong and is expected to become even stronger in future.
