Maersk has been selected for the award because of its state-of-the-art business operations model which has enabled Maersk to come up with innovation and deep insight in the shipping industry globally. The Guardian’s internationally recognised prestigious awards programme is much respected among sustainability opinion leaders of the industry.
This award programme has a judging panel including some of the most dominant scholars from world’s best educational institutions and business schools such as Cambridge University, University College London and Greenpeace, to name a few. Apart from these institutes, several organisations like Friends of Earth, the International Institute for Environment and Development and The Rainforest Alliance are also part of the judging committee.
Chief Executive of the Sustainable Shipping Initiative said that Maersk is transporting 90 percent of the world’s cargo. Shipping is integral to the sustainability of world economy while it has direct relations with the customers wherever it operates in the world.
